NORTH HALL MARKETING STUDENT/DECA MEMBER
WINS OVER $65,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS
Zach Lurie, a Marketing Student and DECA Member, is preparing to enter the Art Institute of California in the fall of 2010. Zach, unlike many students planning for college, does not have to worry about where his tuition money will be found. Through his marketing classes and DECA participation Zach has participated in the Art Institute’s Passion for Fashion Scholarship Program.
Zach is the owner of FRESHCO. FRESHCO is a company that creates and distributes a line of clothing targeted to Extreme Sports enthusiasts and professionals. The company currently sells its products at BMX and Moto-Cross races. Plans are underway for a web-based store to be opened soon and the company also currently sponsors two amateur Moto-Cross racers, one professional Moto-Cross racer, two amateur BMX riders, one pro BMX racer, and an amateur Cart Racer.
The Passion for Fashion Scholarship Program offers promising merchandising students an opportunity to compete for scholarships on the local school level and the national level. Zach competed at the Orange County California location and placed first at this level. As the winner at the local level Zach then competed nationally against winners from all over the United States for the National Passion for Fashion scholarship. Zach won second place overall in the National Competition.
Zach was also entered in the California Art Institute Fashion Marketing Scholarship Competition. This past weekend he attended LA Fashion Week as a guest of Art Institute where he was recognized as the 2010 Fashion Marketing Scholarship winner for California.
A three year DECA Member and Marketing student at North Hall High School, Zach has completed the Marketing Management Career Pathway which emphasized Entrepreneurship and the elements required when opening a business. Zach has also competed at the State and International levels of DECA in the Entrepreneurship Participating Independent Business category winning 3rd at State and a Certificate of Excellence (Top 20%) at the International Level.
Zach has earned over $65,000.00 in scholarship money which will allow him to attend and complete his degree in Fashion Merchandising from the Art Institute of California. The scholarships that make up this amount include:
First Place – Orange County Passion for Fashion Scholarship
Second Place – National Passion for Fashion Scholarship
First Place – California Fashion Marketing Scholarship
Congratulations to Zach and good luck as he takes the next step on his road to success as the owner of FRESHCO!
