Georgia DECA Raises Over $ 7,000 for Cystic Fibrosis
The Georgia DECA State Conference Community Service Project supported the rare disease of Cystic Fibrosis. Over thirty individual DECA Chapters participated in supporting this disease which affects an estimated number of 30,000 children and adults in the United States. This disease consists of a defective gene and its protein product causes the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that causes life-threatening lung infections and preventing enzymes to help the body break down and absorb good. The diagnosed patients have to fight this disease in hope of overcoming it by therapy and treatments. The top three schools that raised the most money were South Forsyth, Chattahoochee, and Rockmart. These schools went over the top in striving to make a difference in the community. With the help of these determined schools, Georgia DECA has created a strong title as a helping hand in society.
Currently, there is not a cure for this heartbreaking illness, but we, DECA members, strive for a cure by giving daily support. Patients across the country are hoping that one day the acronym “CF” will no longer stand for cystic fibrosis, but for Cure Found. This project influenced members to not only make a difference in 30,000 lives, but to strive to help change this acronym.
